  • USACE Galveston District and Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 sign project partnership agreement

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 2, 2019) –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District and the Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 (DD7) are set to begin construction of the Port Arthur and Vicinity Coastal Storm Risk Management Project (CSRM). This construction project within the Southwestern Division's Storm Reconstruction and Risk Reduction Program, will increase protection and provide resiliency to the existing hurricane protection system. The first of five planned Construction projects for the area, is expected to begin April 2020.

  • USACE Galveston District and Cedar Bayou Navigation District sign partnership agreement

    GALVESTON, Texas (September 24, 2019) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District and the Cedar Bayou Navigation District (CBND) are set to begin construction of the Cedar Bayou Channel Improvement Project. Construction of the project is expected to begin February 2020. A Project Partnership Agreement was formally signed by USACE Galveston District and CBND Sept. 23, which initiates the Channel Improvement Project.

  • Signed Chief’s Report released for Jefferson County Ecosystem Restoration Project

    WASHINGTON (Sept. 13, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, received a signed Chief of Engineers Report (Chief’s Report) for the proposed Jefferson County Ecosystem Restoration Project, Sept. 12, outlining the feasibility of providing shore protection and related improvements between Sabine Pass and the entrance to Galveston Bay, Texas, in the interest of protecting and restoring environmental resources on and behind the beach, to include the 77,000 acres of freshwater wetlands and the maritime resources of east Galveston Bay and Rollover Bay.

    GALVESTON, Texas (September 3, 2019) –Just shy of three years working for the Corps, Emily Drastata considers herself the “environmental voice” for the Operations and Maintenance projects at the Galveston District. As a physical scientist at USACE Galveston District, Drastata and her teammate Lisa Finn, environmental project manager, coordinate with the project delivery teams (PDTs) to ensure that compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act is achieved for all projects.

  • Galveston Bay flood risk reduction studies deemed compatible by officals

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 23, 2019) - In a joint statement today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, the General Land Office of the State of Texas and the Center for Severe Storm Prediction Education and Evacuation from Disasters, or SSPEED Center, at Rice University announced the compatibility of two widely-publicized concepts to enhance and protect Galveston Bay.

  • Protecting the Texas Coast

    The Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study is currently the largest civil works feasibility study in USACE and in the United States with plans of coastal protection spanning across 76 miles of Texas coastline. The plan calls for coastal storm resiliency measures to include surge gates, vertical lift gates, ring barrier, height extension of the seawall as well as beach and dune measures. Over the course of the study, over 600 storms were modeled and analyzed by a state-of-the art Coastal Storm Modeling Suite.

  • Addicks and Barker Reservoirs launch Feral Hog Management Program and permit drawing

    HOUSTON (August 7, 2019)—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, Addicks Field Office is launching a Feral Hog Management Program and is accepting annual feral hog trapping applications from Sept. 1-31, for the upcoming 2019-2020 hog trapping season.

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 5, 2019) – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District has published a public notice for the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s proposed Channel Deepening Project, for which an Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared.

  • USACE Galveston District to host Summer Stakeholder Partnering Forum

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 2, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host an External Project Review Board and Summer Stakeholder Partnering Forum (SPF), respectively, on Aug. 13-14, 2019, at the Texas A&M University, Galveston (TAMU-G) Campus, Aggie Special Events Center (Bldg 3035, Rm 203). The theme of the SPF is Leveraging Civil Works Opportunities to Drive the Dominance of America’s Energy Coast.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $20.9 million dredging project with beach renourishment component

    GALVESTON, Texas (June 20, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a $20.9 million contract Tuesday to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC for maintenance dredging of the Galveston Entrance, Outer, and Inner Bar Channels and Houston Ship Channel Bolivar Roads to Redfish Reef, Texas.
