  • Corps steps down releases from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will step down releases from Lake Okeechobee for the third time in the past month. Starting Friday (Dec. 8), the Corps will initiate 7-day pulse releases with an average target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary of 3,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at W.P. Franklin Lock & Dam (S-79) near Fort Myers, and 1,170 cfs for the St. Lucie Estuary as measured at St. Lucie Lock & Dam (S-80) near Stuart.
  • Army Corps updates water release schedule at Francis E. Walter Dam

    PHILADELPHIA (Oct 5, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2016 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. The Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. There is currently not enough water storage to hold the tenth and final increment of the plan (release excess water storage between Friday, Oct. 7 and Monday Oct. 10).
  • Corps to maintain flows from Lake Okeechobee at current rates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will continue discharges from Lake Okeechobee at the current rates that have been in place since late May. The target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary remains unchanged at 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at Moore Haven Lock & Dam (S-77) located on the southwest side of the lake. The target flow for the St. Lucie Estuary remains at 1,800 cfs as measured at St. Lucie Lock & Dam (S-80) near Stuart.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will make an additional reduction in flows from Lake Okeechobee beginning this weekend. The new average target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary is 2,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at W.P. Franklin Lock & Dam (S-79) located near Fort Myers. The new average target flow for the St. Lucie Estuary is 950 cfs as measured at St. Lucie Lock (S-80) near Stuart.

    Due to maintenance and repairs at the Gavins Point Dam power plant, water releases, which normally run through the powerhouse, will be diverted to the spillway beginning Wednesday, March 26. "We are releasing the same amount of water that we normally would. The difference is, it will be more visible to the public because we will be using the spillway instead of the powerhouse," said Dave Becker, Operations Project Manager for Gavins Point.
