  • Tri-Lakes Dams capture 25,000 acre feet of runoff

    Heavy rain and mountain snowmelt runoff since the beginning of May have produced high flows along the South Platte River in Colorado and its contributing tributary streams. The three Denver-area dams operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District and referred to as the Tri-Lakes Projects are Chatfield, Cherry Creek, and Bear Creek Dams. These three reservoirs have captured a combined 25,000 acre-feet of flood water during this period. The combined storage capacity of these three reservoirs is nearly 314,000 acre feet of water.

    Three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District engineers departed Sacramento June 2 to provide technical assistance to state and local agencies responding to the massive West Salt Creek Landslide near Collbran, Colo.

  • Corps mobile command center heads for Colorado flooding

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District deployed a mobile command center –the deployable tactical operations system, or DTOS – to Aurora, Colo., Sept. 14 to assist in the federal government’s response to severe flooding throughout the state.

  • East end of Trinidad Lake reopened to boating

    The boat ramp and the east end of Trinidad Lake are reopened to boating. The west end of the lake is still closed to boating for wildfire aircraft access. The off-limits portion of the lake is clearly marked with buoys and an island.

  • Trinidad Lake Closed to Boating

    Trinidad Lake in Trinidad Lake State Park is closed to boating until further notice. All other park activities, including fishing, camping and hiking, are still permitted. Wildfire aircraft will be dipping the lake for water to combat the Pipeline Fire on Fisher's Peak near Trinidad.

    Employees from the District’s John Martin Reservoir participated in the 9th Annual Cruisin’ Into Summer and Keep Kids Safe Fair June 1, 2013, in Rocky Ford, Colo. The staff was on hand providing water safety tips and handing out water safety materials to the more than 550 children and adults who stopped by the District's booth.
