  • Army Corps of Engineers assisting with local flood fight efforts

    The Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) emergency operations center is activated to respond to the atmospheric river and heavy rain currently impacting the region. Several rivers are expected to rise into moderate flood stage and record flood stage with the most significant impacts predicted to occur in the Chehalis River Basin, according to the National Weather Service.

  • New River Dam outlet channel repair benefits from emergency funding

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is working with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, Arizona, to repair five levee systems using the Public Law 84-99 Rehabilitation and Inspection Program.

  • Update on levee rehabilitation in the Kansas City District

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to update our partners and the public on progress made in our levee rehabilitation program. There are 66 levee systems on target for repairs, some with breeches, some with other surface damage such as grass kill or scour holes. The Corps currently has 24 contracts awarded with another 16 currently advertised for bids or pending award. Contractors have begun moving dirt on 8 of the 24 awarded contracts – this number is increasing daily.

  • Draft Programmatic EA for PL 84-99 levee repairs available for comment

    A draft programmatic environmental assessment to evaluate the impacts of implementing structural repairs, under Public Law 84-99, to levees damaged during devastating flooding in March 2019 is currently available for review. Comments on the draft programmatic EA must be postmarked or received by March 4, 2020.

  • Clarification provided for owners of private levees seeking Corps assistance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District Emergency Operations Center has received several inquiries from private levee owners. If these levees are not in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) PL84-99 program they are not eligible for USACE rehabilitation assistance. The owners of these levees should work with their County Emergency Management personnel and/or the State Emergency Management to determine if there is assistance available to them.

  • Draft EA for Missouri River and Upper Pony Creek levee repairs in Iowa available for public comment

    A draft environmental assessment for levee repairs along the left–descending bank of the Missouri River and at one levee station along Upper Pony Creek in Mills and Pottawattamie counties, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the levees caused by multiple heavy rainfall events in the summer and fall of 2018. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than February 18, 2019.

  • Draft EA for Missouri River Benton-Washington Levee Unit L-575 near Hamburg, Iowa available for public comment

    A draft environmental assessment (EA) for levee repairs (L-575 Benton-Washington levee system) along the left descending bank of the Missouri River near Hamburg, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the levee caused by high flows in May 2017.

  • Army Corps ready to respond as Western Washington rivers on flood watch

    SEATTLE—The Emergency Operations Center at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is activated and on extended shifts until further notice as flood watches and warnings have been issued for Western Washington rivers. Rivers are expected to crest Saturday night into Sunday.

  • Draft EA for Big Goose Creek levee repairs in Sheridan, Wyoming available for public comment

    A draft environmental assessment for levee repairs along the right descending bank of Big Goose Creek in Sheridan, Wyoming is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the levee caused by high flows in June 2017. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than November 6, 2017.

  • Comments sought on draft programmatic EA for repairs to Council Bluffs levee system in Iowa

    A draft programmatic environmental assessment (PEA) for repairs to the Missouri River left bank levee systems in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is currently available for public review. The PEA evaluates the impacts of repairing deficiencies located at various sites along the 28.5-mile Council Bluffs levee system that extends along the Missouri River and includes the Indian Creek and Mosquito Creek tributaries. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than April 5, 2017.
