  • Construction schedule update at Canyon Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Canyon Lake has rescheduled gate replacement work that was planned for this year. The gates are functioning as designed and priority in sequence of repairs has changed.  Work on the control tower service bridge will precede gate replacement work.  As a result of this change, USACE does not anticipate disruptions to river flow releases that would have resulted from the gate replacement work. USACE intends to change over low flow releases to the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority later this week.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 8, 2023) – Operators at navigation locks could easily wear capes for the super work they do to ensure the safety of the public, not to mention employees that maintain these projects in the Cumberland and Tennessee River systems. At Kentucky Lock in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, and Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ongoing mega construction projects to build larger new locks pose additional hazards for these vigilant protectors of people and resources.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is executing a sustainability project funded by the Section 212 Program to install an upstream diffuser system at Wolf Creek Dam on the Cumberland River in Jamestown, Kentucky.
  • Outlet work at Canyon Lake impacts low flow releases

    Canyon Dam flood gate replacement work by the Tennessee Valley Authority is scheduled for December 5, 2022 through April 15, 2023 impacting low flow releases.  Low flow releases can range from 55 to 95 cubic feet per second; however, during days when TVA workers need to be in the conduit, flows will be shut off.  Usually, the workdays are 10 hours in length and during the 14 hour off duty period, catch up releases will be made.  This strategy will minimize stream flow disruptions and allow needed flood gate replacement work to be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.

(April 15, 2019) – First responders participated in an exercise at Center Hill Dam last week to coordinate actions that would be necessary if they had to respond to a scenario where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District could not operate the spillways during a high water event.

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2021) – The 55th chief of engineers visited the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project on the Tennessee River today to meet with project managers and engineers and gain a better understanding of ongoing construction of a new lock chamber.
