  • Army Corps awards $5.5 million contract new Tooele wind turbine

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $5.5 million contract July 8 to Icenogle Construction Management Inc. of San Francisco to install a 2-megawatt wind turbine at Tooele Army Depot in Utah. Juhl Energy from Pipestone, Minn., is the lead design and installation subcontractor. Construction is scheduled to begin spring of 2015.

  • Corps unveils draft plans for West Sacramento flood risk reduction

    A plan to implement enhanced flood risk reduction features around West Sacramento’s perimeter was revealed today as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District released its draft general re-evaluation report and draft environmental impact statement/environmental impact report for the West Sacramento project for public review.

  • Likely algal bloom temporarily closes Martis Creek Lake

    Martis Creek Lake near Truckee has been temporarily closed due to a likely algal bloom. Access to the lake has been restricted and park rangers are posting signs warning visitors against entering or allowing their pets to enter the water. The Martis Creek Lake wildlife area and its hiking trails and the Alpine Meadows campground remain open during the lake closure.

  • Corps of Engineers set to top off new Folsom auxiliary dam Friday

    The last mass concrete for the Folsom auxiliary dam is set to be placed July 11, completing the structure of the new dam. Work will then shift to completing installation of its remaining electrical and mechanical components, including its 12 giant gates.

  • Blasting to periodically close Folsom Lake Crossing beginning July 10

    Folsom Lake Crossing will be closed weekdays during one of three one-hour windows beginning at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. beginning July 10 for blasting work to excavate portions of the new Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway approach channel.

  • Presidio upgrades critical to defense language training mission

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District manages construction on several major projects at the Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, Calif. The program incorporates the latest energy and water conservation technologies in order to operate more efficiently and in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. Most recently, the Corps broke ground on a new dining facility March 17, 2014, that is designed to feed up to 1300 personnel over a 90 minute period. The Corps is also constructing a new general instruction building for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and is renovating the school’s cultural center. Both projects will be completed August 2014.

    Three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District engineers departed Sacramento June 2 to provide technical assistance to state and local agencies responding to the massive West Salt Creek Landslide near Collbran, Colo.

  • Corps reinstates Sacramento levee rehabilitation eligibility

    Sacramento levees are eligible for federal rehabilitation assistance again after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved a letter of intent to deal with remaining encroachment issues over time. A letter of intent is the first step of developing a system-wide improvement framework, or SWIF – a Corps policy that allows levee maintaining agencies to be eligible for federal levee rehabilitation assistance while they work to fix difficult maintenance items according to an approved plan and timeline.
