  • Corps Publishes RECOVER Interim Goals and Targets Report

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District published an updated version of the RECOVER (REstoration COordination & VERification) Interim Goals and Targets Report July 1 using improved models and data not available in the initial report. The report is available online at www.saj.usace.army.mil/IGIT, and Corps experts will be hosting two webinars for interested stakeholders to review the detailed changes to the Interim Goals and Targets. Webinars will begin at 10 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. July 15, 2020.

  • Col. Kelly on Lake Okeechobee: balancing project purposes

    One of the challenges we face at the Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is balancing all of the purposes of managing Lake Okeechobee given to us by Congress – flood control, water supply, navigation, recreation, and preservation of fish and wildlife resources. As we enter rainy season, we will keep focusing on balancing the purposes of lake water management and setting favorable conditions.

  • Virtual public meetings set for Florida Keys study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Monroe County, its nonfederal sponsor, have released the Florida Keys Coastal Storm Risk Management Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement. The public is invited to learn more about the study and its findings during a series of online virtual sessions. USACE staff will be available to answer questions: • July 8, public meeting, 1-3 p.m. • July 9, office hours, 1-2 p.m. • July 13, public meeting, 5-7 p.m. • July 14, office hours, 5-6 p.m. The public meetings will feature a formal presentation, followed by an opportunity to ask questions. Community members have until Aug. 10 to provide feedback on the draft plan.

  • Corps opens public comment on Okeechobee Waterway maintenance dredging from Crossroads to St. Lucie Lock and Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the operation and maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway (OWW) from the intersection of the OWW and the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW), locally known as the Crossroads, to the St. Lucie Lock and Dam in Martin County, Florida. Public comment will be accepted through July 15, 2020.

The public is invited to learn more about the study and its findings at the identical virtual sessions, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. June 9 and 1-3 p.m. June 11. USACE staff will be available to answer questions.

    NORFOLK, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Miami-Dade County, its nonfederal sponsor, will host a pair of online public meetings this month on the Miami-Dade Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study. The public is invited to learn more about the study and its findings at the identical virtual sessions, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. June 9 and 1-3 p.m. June 11. USACE staff will be available to answer questions. The public meetings follow release of the Miami-Dade Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, which is available at www.saj.usace.army.mil/MiamiDadeBackBayCSRMFeasibilityStudy/. The Draft IFR and Programmatic EIS, prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act, identifies coastal storm flood risks to residents, industries and businesses; develops risk-management measures, and evaluates their impacts to public and natural environments. The deadline for all comments is July 20, 2020.

  • Corps announces gradual reopening of camping and recreation areas closed due to COVID-19

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the gradual reopening, starting June 1, of some Corps-managed recreation areas along the Okeechobee Waterway that were closed to protect against the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). “The health and safety of our employees, volunteers, and visitors is our top priority. Our rangers have been hard at work, planning for the gradual reopening of our recreation facilities and implementing increased protection measures and signage to ensure everyone can enjoy our recreation areas safely and responsibly,” said Jeff Fallin, Chief of the South Florida Operations Office in Clewiston. “We know that everyone is looking forward to getting outside and returning to their favorite recreation areas, and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.”

  • Corps opens public comment on construction of a Dredged Material Management Area in Martin County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for construction of a dredged material management area (DMMA) at Site O-23 located in Martin County, Florida. Public comment will be accepted through June 18, 2020.

  • Corps opens public comment on Broward County Segment II beach renourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) regarding the continued periodic renourishment of Segment II, a part of the Broward County Shore Protection Project (BCSPP). Public comment will be accepted through June 18, 2020.

  • Corps accepts comments on EA to support proposed construction and interim operations of components of CEPP South

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for proposed construction and interim operations of features of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) South. Comments are due June 15, 2020.
