    VICKSBURG, Miss. — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineering With Nature (EWN) leaders contributed to a White House interagency report released Nov. 8 about opportunities for the federal government to accelerate the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS). “The report provides a roadmap with five strategic recommendations for federal agencies to implement, and it provides an agency resource guide of thirty NBS examples in action,” said Dr. Todd Bridges, national lead of EWN.

  • ERDC R&D underpins harmful algal bloom removal technology at Ohio demonstration

    VICKSBURG, Miss.– U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers attended a demonstration of freshwater harmful algae removal technology at William H. Harsha Lake in Batavia, Ohio, September 15. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources H2Ohio Program hosted the event, with industry partners Woolpert, an architecture, engineering, geospatial and strategic consulting firm, and AECOM, an infrastructure and engineering company presenting the technology. The Harmful Algal Bloom Interception, Treatment, and Transformation System (HABITATS) underpins the harmful algal bloom (HAB) removal unit demonstrated at the lake, which is located just outside of Cincinnati.
  • ERDC, DEVCOM ARL partners create a bright future with new photonic technology

    VICKSBURG, Miss. — U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers teamed up with researchers at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory (DEVCOM ARL) to develop the photonic integrated circuit (PIC), a new technology that captures and detects harmful water-borne contaminants in the environment.

    A U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center Construction Engineer Research Laboratory (CERL) team has been working to develop a tool called Facility Investment Analytics, or FIA. FIA is a decision support tool for the Installation Program Evaluation Group Program Objective Memorandum planning that generates prioritized Facility Investment Plan data based on critical infrastructure requirements from Army senior leaders and risk prioritization analysis.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District seeks community feedback regarding proposed changes to the Mosquito Creek Lake Master Plan and will host a 30-day public comment period from May 16 to June 15. The master plan update is modeled on previously collected-community feedback. It will affect the future management of the recreational activities and natural resource use at Mosquito Creek Lake for the next 25 years.
  • Corps completes CERCLA five-year review at SLDA

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with the Buffalo District, completed a five-year review of the selected remedy for the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) site per the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
