    People say there’s no place like home, but sometimes venturing outside the known can enrich our careers and lives in ways we couldn’t have otherwise imagined. That’s just what Maj. Aaron Hotard and Sgt. 1st Class Shane Finney emphasized on March 27 when they spoke to 35 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District employees about the benefits of joining a Forward Engineer Support Team - Advanced.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District employees deploy around the world

    Each year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deploys thousands of people to provide technical engineering expertise and promote capacity development at home and abroad as part of the federal government’s unified national response to disasters and emergencies. The Corps of Engineers also delivers critical engineering support to the joint force in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other global operations through our military and civilian workforce, as shown by over 12,000 civilians who have voluntarily deployed supporting the nation’s efforts in the Middle East. Over the past six months, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District has deployed over 25 people across the globe. Here are some of their stories.

  • 18-111 Sixteen Walla Walla District power team members return from mission in Guam; two relocate to Saipan to assist recovery efforts

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Sixteen members of Walla Walla District’s 18-member Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team (PRT) returned home during Sept. 13 and 14, after providing support to FEMA’s Typhoon Mangkhut emergency-response efforts in Guam and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), according to District emergency management officials. Both Guam and the CNMI are U.S. territories located east of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean. Two Power PRT members will remain to continue assisting FEMA’s temporary emergency power assistance mission.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District’s emergency power team deployed to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, today, in anticipation of Hurricane Florence’s landfall.

  • Deployment Roadshow team visits Huntsville Center

    A team of deployment coordinators visited the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, July 18 to give employees information on how they can support the Corps’ overseas missions.

  • Pittsburgh District team deploys to Puerto Rico again

    The Pittsburgh District’s power team recently deployed to Puerto Rico for the third time to support the longest, largest temporary emergency power mission in USACE history as part of the island’s hurricane recovery effort.

  • Corps employees volunteer from across U.S. for NorCal wildfire mission

    USACE employees have volunteered from as far away as Pennsylvania, Tennessee, New York, Alabama and Alaska; they have volunteered in timeframes as brief as 3 days, and as long as 90 days straight. And whether their workday is spent on the phone troubleshooting issues for property owners or in the field analyzing the condition of properties, each one plays an important role in helping to return these distressed communities back to a sense of normalcy.

    Like many members of the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, who have been deploying to help residents of hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, Neriah Holly volunteered to help people he didn’t know. But less than a day before his departure in early November, an unexpected request from a fellow employee made his mission a lot more personal.

  • Huntington District Regulatory Division lends a helping hand to Jacksonville District

    Project managers Cecil Cox and Kayla Adkins recently volunteered to assist the Fort Myers regulatory field office with a few extra sets of hands for disaster recovery. The Jacksonville District manages the largest regulatory program in the Corps, with jurisdiction over the geographic area of Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This includes freshwater habitats as well as saltwater habitats that provide homes to the West Indian manatee, Florida panther, wood stork, and multiple other fish/snake/bird species.

  • ISIS, potential dam collapse make deployment memorable

    Richard Benoit, Portland District dive team proponent and program manager, has been deployed for more than a year, first to Afghanistan and now to Iraq. This is his seventh overseas deployment, but his first to the Middle East, where he is serving as the Corps’ dive safety officer and dive safety inspector for the Mosul Dam rehabilitation and repair project.
