  • Locks and Dam 14 Riverfront Walkway Reopens

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the riverfront walkway at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, has reopened for public use. The space, which has been closed since December 2020 for reconstruction, now features a fully accessible concrete walkway with covered seating and a picnic area.

  • Keeping the river open for business, dredging contract awarded

    The Memphis District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for keeping the Mississippi River open for commercial navigation year-round. One way the district does this is through contract dredging, which keeps the river channel at a depth that allows the river barge industry to dependably transport goods up and down the river. Ensuring the district delivers on this charge, the Memphis District recently awarded a contract in the amount of $7,335,450 to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, LLC for the rental of a 24-inch hydraulic cutterhead dredge, discharge pipe, and attendant plant. The contract was awarded June 2, 2022, with an anticipated completion date of Feb. 28, 2023.

  • Corps temporarily closes Lock and Dam 5A to nearly 90-year-old gates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will have four temporary closure periods at Lock and Dam 5A near Fountain City, Wisconsin, from July 19-28, to replace the lock chamber’s miter gates.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District hosted Industry Engagement Day to inform contractors about a multi-year construction project at Montgomery Locks and Dam in Monaca, Pennsylvania.

  • Below average runoff forecasts for upper Missouri River Basin continue

    Runoff continues to be below average in the upper Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa. Below-normal precipitation, dry soil conditions in the western portions of the basin, and cooler-than-normal temperatures slowing mountain snowmelt, resulted in a May runoff of 2.7 million acre-feet. While this was 0.4 MAF more than forecast last month, this volume is still 79% of average.

  • Corps temporarily closes Lock and Dam 8 to replace 85-year-old gates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will close Lock and Dam 8 in Genoa, Wisconsin, to navigation during four 12-hour closure periods from June 14-23, to replace the lock chamber’s miter gates.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Awards Contract for Critical Repairs to Oswego Harbor Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District awarded a $4.75 million contract to Michigan-based Dean Marine Excavating on June 2, for repairs to the Oswego Harbor west arrowhead breakwater and the foundation of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse in Oswego, N.Y.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will begin dredging the St. Paul, Minnesota, Small Boat Harbor this week.

  • 22-038 Corps updates Safe Lockage Policy for recreational vessels on Columbia, Snake rivers

  • Tacoma Harbor deepening project ready for Congressional consideration

    The Tacoma Harbor Navigation Improvement Project reached a major milestone this week with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon’s signing of the project’s Chief of Engineers’ Report May 26. This sets the stage for Congress to consider action to authorize and fund the project to deepen the Blair Waterway enabling the Port of Tacoma to handle new, larger container ships.
