As part of a three-day meeting to discuss issues and share innovative practices, Regulatory Project Managers from the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) gathered on Sept. 10, 2014, to take a cruise on the Kanawha River. But this wasn’t a pleasure cruise - it was a fl oating classroom.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to host two Regulatory meetings in U.S. Virgin Islands

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host its final Regulatory Division Open House Wed., Sept. 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library, 4607 Tutu Park Mall, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Corps will also host a public meeting Thurs., Sept. 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Charles. W. Turnbull Regional Library to discuss the permit application by Coral World, Inc. for construction of a nearshore dolphin exhibit enclosure and landside support and visitor education center.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks comments on permit application for Lee County beach renourishment

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is considering an application by the Captiva Erosion Prevention District for a Department of the Army permit to address erosion through beach renourishment along 6.5 miles of shoreline between Redfish Pass in Captiva and Bowman’s Beach in Sanibel, Lee County, Florida. The Corps issued a Public Notice August 5 and comments are due by August 26, 2014.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host its Regulatory Division Open House Thurs., August 7 at the San Juan Marriott, 1309 Ashford Avenue, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Doors open at 8 a.m. and a series of presentations begins at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Same service but new location for Western Regulatory Field Office

DECATUR, Ala. (Aug. 1, 2014) – The Nashville District’s Western Regulatory Field Office relocated this week to a new location in Decatur, Ala. Its staff assists with processing permits pursuant to Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act in the Tennessee River Basin from Guntersville Dam to Kentucky Dam.

The events will be held Mon., July 28 at the Marriott Jacksonville, 4670 Salisbury Road, Jacksonville, Florida; Wed., July 30 at the Bay Point Wyndham, 4114 Jan Cooley Drive, Panama City Beach, Florida and Fri., Aug. 1 at the Orlando Airport Marriott, 7499 Augusta National Drive, Orlando, Florida. Doors open at 8 a.m. and a series of presentations begins at 8:30 a.m. The events are free and open to the public.

The Department of the Army Regulatory Program is one of the oldest in the federal government. There are approximately 1,300 regulators working in 38 Corps district offices nationwide. Though the landscapes and primary missions may fluctuate across districts, all of the regulatory specialists serve the same role – as protectors of our main life source, water. And the Corps – as a steward of waters in 43 states – is committed to the national goal of no net loss of aquatic resources.

The events will be held Wed., July 9 at Hawk’s Cay Resort Florida Keys, 61 Hawks Cay Boulevard, Duck Key, Florida and Fri., July 11 at Marriott Harbor Beach, 3030 Holiday Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Each event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a series of presentations. The events are free and open to the public.
