  • Corps of Engineers awards contracts for Maumee Bay and Maumee River dredging

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has awarded a $2.122 million contract to conduct dredging of the federal navigation channel in Maumee Bay, and a $787,000 contract for the Maumee River dredging to occur during 2019, located along Lake Erie in Toledo Harbor, in the City of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.
  • Bio-acoustic fish fence expected to be operational this fall

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (July 30, 2019) – An experimental project designed to deter Asian carp from entering Lake Barkley is underway. Officials addressed stakeholders and media today on the deployment of the bio-acoustic fish fence on the downstream side of the navigation lock and evaluation of the system’s ability to deter the movement of these fish.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District began repairs to 625 feet out of the 1,000 feet of critical repair area of the Buffalo south breakwater located in the Buffalo Harbor, in the City of Buffalo, Erie County, New York on July 26, 2019. Site work is expected to start in 2019 with anticipated completion in 2020.

    In historic military tradition, command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District transferred today from Col. Douglas B. Guttormsen to Col. William C. Hannan, Jr. In a ceremony at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo., Hannan received the traditional guidon from Guttormsen thus assuming command of the district.

    Col. James J. Handura assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District from Col. David G. Ray during a Change of Command ceremony today at the Masonic Temple in downtown Sacramento. Brig. Gen. Kim M. Colloton, commander of the Corps’ South Pacific Division, presided over the ceremony introducing the district’s 33rd commander.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is excited to announce that work began on July 9th, 2019, two months ahead of schedule, to conduct temporary measures to secure the damaged west pier in Little Sodus Harbor, located in Fair Haven in Cayuga County, New York. Site work is expected to be complete in late July to early August 2019.
