  • FREE Boating Safety Classes to be Offered

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be offering two, free boating safety education classes, May 7 and 14 at the Mississippi River Project Office near Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Each class runs from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 12 years of age or older. Completion of only one of these classes is needed for certification.

  • May 22-27 declared as Safe Boating Week in Arkansas

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District in partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Coast Guard Auxiliary attended a Safe Boating Week Proclamation ceremony where Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson declared May 22-27 as Safe Boating Week in the Natural State.

  • Christmas Parade

    Big things come in small packages, and that adage couldn’t of rang truer than on Saturday night when the city of Glenville hosted its Annual Christmas Parade downtown. Old Saint Nick headlined the event, but asked his close pal, “Bobber the Water Safety Dog” to participate in providing the children of Glenville an exciting evening of colorful lights, festive costumes and lots and lots of candy!

  • Christmas Cookies with Bobber and Santa

    The Annual Christmas Cookies with Bobber and Santa was held at the Burnsville Community Building. Participants enjoyed learning about water safety in a creative hands-on hypothermia activity called Frosty Fingers, made water safety ornaments, met Bobber the Water Safety Dog and Santa, received water safety promotions, made Christmas ornaments with the Friends of Burnsville Lake and celebrated the holidays with cookies and hot chocolate.

  • USACE Charleston District reminds residents to practice harbor safety

    As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District continues dredging the Charleston harbor to deepen it to 52 feet, officials with the district are reminding tri-county residents to practice safety in and around the harbor.

  • Water Safety Event

    On Tuesday, October 12th, the Rangers of Summersville Lake instructed a class on water safety for over 240 5th grade students from around the local area, showing support for the Nicholas County 5th Grade Fun Run.

  • USACE Vicksburg District Lake Ouachita low water conditions advisory

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Due to warm temperatures over the last several months and low rainfall totals, Lake Ouachita water levels are low. Visitors are advised to exercise caution during all water based recreational activities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reminds visitors of the importance of practicing safe, sensible, and thoughtful activities in and around the water. On Sept. 23, 2021, the lake level is 568.69 feet above mean sea level and falling. Boaters should use extra caution while navigating near shorelines, islands, points, and any unfamiliar areas. Standing timber, tree stumps, and gravel bars may emerge where they were previously undetected due to higher water levels.
