    Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death, yet the number of deaths by drowning could be reduced drastically if everyone would wear a life jacket. Statistics show that 89 percent of those who drown at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes and rivers may have survived if they had worn a life jacket.
  • Corps celebrates America’s Great Outdoors, opens new pathway

    BALTIMORE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District is celebrating an America’s Great Outdoors event with a ceremony to officially open Raystown Lake’s Greenside Pathway, June 20. The keynote speaker for the formal presentation is Ms. Jo-Ellen Darcy, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, scheduled for noon at the Raystown Lake Amphitheatre in the Seven Points Recreation Area. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place immediately following the formal presentation at the kiosk adjacent to the trail.
  • Hundreds of Tires, Tons of Trash Cleaned out at Conchas Lake

    Albuquerque District staff at Conchas Lake removed more than 560 tires from the lake at the South Recreation Area in preparation for the 2013 recreation season.

    Like anything worthwhile, Jacksonville District’s observance of Take Pride in America Day took a lot of planning, preparation and hard work.
