  • Record turnout, eagle sightings during annual eagle surveys at two USACE lakes

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiu Lake, N.M., and John Martin Reservoir, Colo., recently held mid-winter bald eagle surveys where volunteers and USACE staff counted eagles to help get information on eagle trends, distribution, and habitat at each lake. A record turnout of approximately 100 volunteers spotted eight eagles during the annual event at Abiquiu Lake. 78 eagles were sighted at the event at John Martin Reservoir.
  • Abiquiu Lake to host annual Midwinter Eagle Count Jan. 6

    USACE staff at Abiquiu Lake, NM, will host their annual midwinter eagle survey, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Abiquiu Lake Visitor Center for registration beginning at 9:00 a.m.

    Representatives with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and the City of Newport Beach hosted a cleanup event Sept. 23 at the Santa Ana River Marsh in Newport Beach. The cleanup of the 92-acre saltwater marsh area was in recognition of National Public Lands Day.

  • Volunteers lauded for work on Bear Wheels Mountain Bike Trail

    CARTHAGE, Tenn. (Aug 29, 2023) – Volunteers from the Upper Cumberland Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association recently partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Cordell Hull Lake to host a trail maintenance day at Defeated Creek Park on the Bear Wheels Mountain Bike Trail.
  • Making a difference, one project at a time

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers utilizes volunteers as a workforce multiplier across the nation which resulted in an equivalent value of more than $45 million in volunteer hours last year. Volunteers are filling roles at lakes across the nation. More than 2,100 volunteers assisted the Fort Worth District in 2022. Thanks to the volunteers, many of the lakes were able to complete projects that would have otherwise been delayed.

    ALVA, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District invites the public to participate in a day of service at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam South Recreation Area near Alva during National Pollinator Week, on Saturday, June 24, from 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. The Corps is looking for 100 or more volunteers of all ages, for any amount of time, to plant nearly 9,000 Florida native pollinator wildflowers and grasses.
  • Communities spanning two counties dedicate Periwinkle Trail

    GRANVILLE, Tenn. (March 28, 2023) - The communities of Smith County, Jackson County and the “Friends of Cordell Hull Lake” dedicated Periwinkle Trail March 25, 2023, at the Indian Creek Archery Range trailhead. The newly constructed trail provides hikers a new path to experience the outdoors and creates a bond between the two counties.
