  • Concrete is hard: Materials workshop keeps technical staff skills sharp

    Recently, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District’s Construction Division, Civil and Sanitary Section and Geotechnical and Materials Section participated in a field concrete and materials workshop at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The event included classroom instruction, applied training and a written exam for attendees to obtain the American Concrete Institute’s foundational Level One Field Concrete Certification, which acts as the industry standard for engineers and construction workers around the world.

Park staff will use electric gates, traffic cones and newly constructed roundabout and entrance station to manage traffic flow and parking.

    A work package from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District for repairs to the Great Sodus Bay East Breakwater is officially out for proposals. $20 million dollars is already allocated towards the 100% federally funded project, marking the largest investment ever in Great Sodus Bay by the Corps of Engineers.

  • High water causes debris warning, closures at Saylorville Lake

    Following recent rainfall in the Des Moines River watershed and subsequent rising water levels at Saylorville Lake, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has implemented closures in specific areas for public safety. The closed areas include Cherry Glen Lower Boat Ramp, the lower parking lot at Lakeview High Water Boat Ramp, Oak Grove Beach Access, and NW Jester Park Drive. These closures will remain in effect until lake levels recede, and the areas can be cleaned and safely reopened.

  • Contract to remove potential source of petroleum awarded ahead of schedule

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Leadership from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division and the Savannah District conducted a site visit to Buxton, North Carolina, May 1, 2024, to meet with representatives from the National Park Service and Dare County to evaluate current conditions at the Formerly Used Defense Site Buxton Naval Facility and discuss agency and public concerns regarding the reported petroleum contamination. Since the visit, a contract to remove a pipe to determine if it’s the source of the reported petroleum was awarded ahead of schedule.
