  • San Luis Rey River habitat maintenance resumes

    Habitat maintenance along the San Luis Rey River resumed in Oceanside, Calif., Sept. 9 when RECON Environmental, Inc., once again deployed water trucks to help establish recently planted native vegetation in the riverbed.

  • US upgrades Senegalese army training center

    DODJI, Senegal -- The sound of construction progress will soon be replaced by the voices of Senegalese soldiers at Dodji Peacekeeping Operations Training Center. Representatives from the Senegalese army, U.S. Embassy Senegal and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District visited the Dodji PKO project site Aug. 20 to inspect construction work by contractor, CNaf-SET.

  • USACE finalizes draft L.A. River study report and initiates 45-day public comment period

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finalized preparation of a draft report for the Los Angeles River Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study and posted the report to the Los Angeles District website Sept. 13. The report will appear in the Federal Register Sept. 20, which will trigger a 45-day public comment period that will help inform a final report and result in the Corps’ recommendation to Congress.

  • DEPLOYMENT CENTER CLOSING CEREMONY HONORS TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SUCCESSES

    Since 2005, the USACE Deployment Center has been the first stop for thousands of deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Managed by and housed at the Middle East District headquarters in Winchester, thousands of USACE civilians, Soldiers and contractors, along with thousands of members from other federal agencies, have spent their first week away from their home stations at the Deployment Center being trained and equipped for their new mission.

  • USACE reopens Sawnee Campground

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District will be opening Sawnee Campground on Lake Sidney Lanier on September 20, 2013 until March 23, 2014 on a first-come, first served basis. Campers will have the opportunity to pick a campsite of their liking and pay, review fees, rules and regulations, or obtain maps of the park and lake at the self-service registration station by the gatehouse.

  • Corps members guide young students interested in STEM pathway

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 12, 2013) – A group of technical experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District participated in Hands-On Science and Engineering Day at Stratford STEM Magnet High School today to guide young students with budding interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $1.1 million contract for placement area DAMP

    GALVESTON, Texas (Sept. 11, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded a contract in the amount of $1,131,067 to RLB Contracting Inc., for dewatering and incremental levee raising at dredging placement areas 1 and 2 located north of the Harbor Causeway or Highway 181, on the east side of the Inner Harbor, Corpus Christi, Texas.

  • “River of Interests” is first Corps publication honored by American Library Association

    In June 2013, Jacksonville District’s “River of Interests: Water Management in South Florida and the Everglades, 1948-2010” became the first U.S. Army Corps of Engineers publication to be placed on the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2012 Notable Documents list. It was one of 20 federal publications to be so honored.
