  • Corps of Engineers to host 25th Eagle Days event at Smithville Lake

    SMITHVILLE, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites the public to Smithville Lake’s 25th Annual Eagle Days in Smithville, Mo., Jan. 4 and 5, 2020. The two-day event is highlighted by live predatory bird programs hosted by Operation Wildlife on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. at the Paradise Pointe Golf Course Complex. Several other vendors will participate Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Eagle viewing stations with spotting scopes and agency personnel will be available to help visitors view live eagles in the wild.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake celebrates 30th managed deer hunt

    Nearly 150 people filled a maintenance facility with excitement at Smithville Lake around 4 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019. They were all there for one reason, to get out into the wild and seek a big buck this weekend. For the 30th year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake hosted what’s known as the world’s largest managed deer hunt for mobility-impaired hunters. During this two-day event, 60 hunting blinds are set up across 3,800 acres of prime ground, not available for public hunting. Along with a volunteer, these hunters seek out the best spot near daybreak and wait out their target.

    The Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a public open house Dec. 3 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) to provide information and solicit input on the proposed action to replace BEP’s aging, inefficient currency production facility in Washington, D.C. and construct it on previously occupied land at BARC.
