Nashville District completes Gate City Floodplain Management Services Study

(April 19, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently completed a Floodplain Management Services Special Study of Little Moccasin Creek and Big Moccasin Creek, which evaluated the continual flooding of surrounding areas of Grogan Park and Old Nickelsville Highway in Gate City, Virginia.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & University City to release Draft Report with updated recommendation for the University City Branch, River Des Peres General Reevaluation Report, a Flood Risk Management Study 30-day public comment period begins April 18
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, is releasing an updated version of the Draft Report for the River Des Peres-University City GRR study for public review. The report presents an updated recommendation consisting of a detention basin located within the City of Overland, which would provide flood risk reduction benefits to University City and Overland. The report will be released for public review on Monday, April 18, 2022, opening a 30-day public comment period.

Corps of Engineers announces permanent road closure of 173rd Avenue SE for Fargo-Moorhead diversion project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, along with the Metro Flood Diversion Authority and Cass County, will permanently close the portion of 173rd Avenue SE between 49th Street SE and 124th Avenue South (Cass County Highway 16 South). The closure is expected to begin around April 28.

Army Corps Spring Creek Projects Aim to Restore Ecosystems, Manage Flood Risks
In 2012, thousands of homes in New York City were flooded by Hurricane Sandy. One of many neighborhoods affected by the storm was Howard Beach, in Queens, where the nearby Spring Creek Park and adjacent basins acted as a conduit for ocean waters, flooding residential streets and homes. In the storm’s aftermath, local officials pressed federal and state governments for a solution to prevent future flooding.

Dredging on the Kaskaskia River
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is announcing that dredging has once again began on the Kaskaskia River from the New Athens, Ill. boat ramp south to the confluence of the Mississippi River. This dredging is intended to remove sediment from boat ramps and the mouths of oxbows on the Kaskaskia River improving access for navigation capabilities, recreation, and promoting economic growth.
