• USACE hosting virtual public meeting for study to evaluate Snake Creek Embankment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Omaha District welcomes the public to participate in a virtual scoping meeting Thursday, March 24 to learn about the recently initiated Snake Creek Embankment Dam Safety Modification Study.
  • Below average runoff continues for the upper Missouri River Basin

    “The runoff in February was less than predicted, and we expect the lower-than-average runoff to continue in the coming months,” said John Remus, chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’, Missouri River Basin Water Management Division. “The snow accumulation in both the plains and the mountains continues to be below average, and the soil moisture remains very low compared to normal. This resulted in us lowering our anticipated runoff for the 2022 water year.”
  • Environmental Science Series Programs Return to the Rend Lake Visitor Center

    After two years of limited public programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is excited to celebrate Rend Lake’s 50th Anniversary with a full year of programming. The Environmental Science Series begins May 28, 2022. These programs will be held every Saturday from May 28th to September 3rd in the Rend Lake Visitor Center.

While many visitors enjoy the campgrounds, playgrounds and other recreational activities the lakes provide, some may not realize the amount of work that goes on in preparation for the summer months.
  • Galveston District hosting INDUSTRY DAYS for businesses

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, will host our annual Industry Days for small- and medium-sized businesses and government contractors March 22-23, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Titled “All Things Galveston,” this year’s Industry Days event will again be hosted virtually due to ongoing Federal COVID-19 restrictions. The purpose of the two-day event is to present upcoming work, help small- and medium-sized businesses navigate through the contracting process, provide an opportunity for companies to network and meet potential vendors and subcontractors, and maximize interest in the Galveston District’s contracting requirements.

  • Illinois Waterway Visitor Center closed to public March 6-9

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily close the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center at Starved Rock Lock and Dam in Ottawa, Illinois, March 6-9, to allow staff to attend mandatory training. During this time, no indoor or outdoor facilities at the site will be available for public use.
