  • Late spring storms bring high flows, potential debris on Lake Pend Oreille

    Heavy precipitation from a series of late spring storms combined with above average and late-melting snowpack runoff have significantly increased inflows into Lake Pend Oreille and increased flood risk downstream of Albeni Falls Dam. The Pend Oreille River has exceeded flood flow and is likely to stay above that threshold for the next week.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces signing of Chief’s Report for New York & New Jersey Harbor Deepening and Channel Improvements Study

    NEW YORK — Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, Commanding General, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and 55th Chief of Engineers, recently signed the New York & New Jersey Harbor Deepening and Channel Improvements (NY&NJHDCI) Chief's Report. The Port of New York and New Jersey is the busiest container port on the East and Gulf Coasts and the second busiest container gateway in the United States. The Chief’s Report recommends bend widenings and channel deepening in the existing -50 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) datum channels; and in Ambrose Channel, currently -58 feet MLLW.
  • USACE seeks comments on Third Revised Draft PIR and Supplemental EIS for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) announces a 45-day public comment period for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project Third Revised Draft Project Implementation Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (PIR/SEIS). Comments are due Monday, August 1, 2022. The report, along with information about the project and instructions on how to provide comments, can be found at www.saj.usace.army.mil/LOWRP/
  • Reunited and it Feels So Good! Buffalo District returns to conferences and continues collaboration

    During the last two-plus years of the pandemic, face-to-face interaction has been limited for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District employees helping to ensure their health and safety, as well as that of the public. But this spring has seen reinvigorated relationship-building and community engagement through the return to larger in-person conferences, meetings, and outreach events for the district.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently completed construction work at its Clamshell Lake boat access in Crosslake, Minnesota. The boat ramp is now open for use.

    On the morning of March 2, 2022, a prescribed burn was initiated at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) in an effort to create, restore, and revitalize prairies below the Lewisville Dam. This fire was assumed to be controlled prior to noon, but due to weather condition changes, that fire escaped its intended area.
