• Summer Hunting Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers a variety of late summer hunting opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources work together to manage public lands and waters at Carlyle Lake. More than 10,000 acres of public lands are open to public hunting to which all-current Illinois game laws and regulations are in effect. All hunters are required to sign in and out daily and record harvest at the nearest hunter sign in box. Access areas are conveniently located around the lake to provide parking and access to public lands. Several wildlife food plots have been planted around the lake. Plots consist of various crops including sunflowers, corn, and other row crops.
  • Corps of Engineers awards contract to dredge, rehabilitate jetty at Fishing Creek

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, has awarded a $3.17 million contract to White Lake Dock and Dredge, Inc., a Small Business out of North Shores, Michigan, for maintenance dredging and southern jetty rehabilitation for the Fishing Creek Federal navigation channel.

    On Aug. 4, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District awarded a contract to SNA Contracting from Shreveport, LA. to pave recreation areas at Sam Rayburn and Town Bluff Lakes.
  • Kyle Shireman receives Chief of Engineers Safety Award

    The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Safety Office's Kyle Shireman received the 2021 Chief of Engineer Safety Award for improvements to the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program.
  • USACE Buffalo District Constructs Emerald Shiner Passage Structure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has completed construction of a novel fish passage structure along the Niagara River at Broderick Park in Buffalo, New York, and early monitoring results indicate preliminary project success in helping emerald shiner move upstream. The project, known as the Emerald Shiner Demonstration project, was built between November 2021 and February 2022 to overcome an obstacle to the passage of emerald shiner, a very small but critically important preyfish.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host the Mississippi River Commission’s (MRC) public meeting, Aug. 24, from 2-5 p.m., at the Vicksburg City Front aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi.

    The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Divisions’ Dr. Carolyn D. Harris received the Team Award Civilian Service Commendation Medal for outstanding performance and support while conducting the Army Green Belt Class 22-007.
  • 30th Annual Cruz-In the Dam Event at Carlyle Lake

    Carlyle Lake – On Friday, August 12, 2022, the 30th Annual Cruz-In the Dam Car Show Nationals will be held at Mariner’s Village Resort in the Dam West area of Carlyle Lake. More than 250 classic cars from central and southern Illinois are expected to participate in the event.
  • Heroes of the Month

    Locally heavy rainfalls totaling over 6 inches fell in the lower Big Sandy Area at locations in southeast Kentucky and Western Virginia July 26-28.  Just two weeks early Buchanan County, VA had received over 7 inches of rain in three hours resulting in significant flooding at Fishtrap Lake. This current rainfall event resulted in additional heavy flash flooding throughout the region, include flooding Corps of Engineers Campgrounds at Dewey and Fishtrap Lakes in Kentucky and John W. Flannagan Dam and Reservoir in Virginia.  The USFS Campground at North Fork of Pound River Lake also flooded.
