The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host a community meeting Thursday, May 10 to provide information and receive input about the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) for the former Camp Gordon Johnston, a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) in Franklin County.

USACE Galveston District awards $2.7 million contract to dredge lower reach of GIWW’s Channel to Victoria

GALVESTON, Texas (May 9, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction Inc., in the amount of $2,687,000 for maintenance dredging of the lower reach of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway’s (GIWW) Channel to Victoria in Calhoun County, Texas.

Updated 2012 National Wetland Plant List is available

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with other federal agencies announced today the release of the updated National Wetland Plant List. This national list of wetland plants by species and their wetland ratings provides general botanical information about wetland plants and is used extensively by federal and state agencies, the scientific and academic communities, and the private sector in wetland delineations and the planning and monitoring of wetland mitigation and restoration sites.

Fort Campbell combat engineers learn Nashville District’s ‘civilian missions’

Los Angeles River: location, location, location

The area adjacent to Rio de Los Angeles State Park was one of three sites featured for informational talks given by key stakeholders during the Friends of the LA River’s 23rd Annual La Gran Limpieza: The Great Los Angeles River CleanUp on April 28. In all, 4,000 volunteers spread out over 15 community sites to remove tons of debris from the river’s channel.

Maintenance dredging project will restore federal channels in lower Newport Harbor

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began a five-month, $6.5 million maintenance dredging project May 2 when a clamshell dredge started removing up to 350,000 cubic yards of material in an effort to restore safe navigation to federal channels in lower Newport Harbor.
