    NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District has awarded a $7.3 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Ill., to place approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sand along the beach at Coney Island in the area of the previously constructed coastal storm risk reduction project there. The work is part of near-term coastal restoration efforts taking place at previously constructed coastal storm risk reduction projects throughout the region.

    Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs Update July 19

    Jamestown Reservoir releases have been reduced to 400 cubic feet per second (cfs) and Pipestem Reservoir releases have been increased to 500 cfs. Combined releases remain at 900 cfs. Early next week releases will again be adjusted resulting in a 300 cfs release from Jamestown Reservoir and a 600 cfs release from Pipestem Reservoir. The combined release of 900 cfs is expected to continue until late July.

    District Offers First STEM Internship

    This summer the District collaborated with the University of New Mexico to launch the District’s first eight-week STEM internship. Civil engineering student Corey Bowen started the internship May 28 and spent her time helping on several on-going design projects.

    THIBODAUX, La.-- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, signed its first Memorandum of Agreement with Nicholls State University, July 17. The Memorandum of Agreement, or MOA, establishes the basis for mutual understanding and cooperation between the corps and the university, with a focus on the school's Department of Applied Science, Geomatics Program.
