Free Boating Safety Class

Pleasant Valley, IA - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering a free boating safety education class. The class will be held on April 12th and will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Shady Creek Recreation Area is Opening Early!

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces the early opening of Shady Creek Recreation Area, due to the extended closure of Clark’s Ferry. Shady Creek will open on April 11, 2014 for first come first serve users only. Reservations will be honored beginning on our regularly scheduled opening date of May 2nd.

Army Corps' Arthur Kill Channel Deepening: Part of a More Extensive 50 foot NY/NJ Harbor Deepening Project

Blasting work being performed in the Arthur Kill Channel between Elizabeth, New Jersey and the New York Container Terminal, Staten Island, New York. Areas of the channel contain solid bedrock which requires precision controlled, safe and staggered detonations underwater to fracture the rock for removal. The deepening of the Arthur Kill will be the final milestone achieved in the overall 50 foot Harbor Deepening Project. Next will be the 40 foot channel deepening of the Arthur Kill Channel leading to an oil refinery in Linden, New Jersey.

Corps signs Commonwealth Crossing permit

The Norfolk District authorized the environmental permit to develop the Commonwealth Crossing Business Center in Henry County, Va. here today. The Henry County Industrial Development Authority agreed to the proffered permit sent by Norfolk District last week, which allowed Col. Paul Olsen, Norfolk District commander, to finalize and authorize the permit.

Vicksburg, Miss… The 569th Engineer Detachment (Dive), 30th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade of Ft. Eustis, Virginia, completed repairs earlier this week at Narrows Dam at Lake Greeson in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.
