    Hunter Greg Brandner of Pierre, S.D., harvested the first turkey of a special spring turkey hunt being held at the Oahe Dam and Lake recreation area. The hunt was hosted in partnership with the National Wild Turkey Federation and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. In recent years, the Oahe Project has made use of its specially enclosed blinds, which allows hunters with disabilities requiring the use a wheelchair, the opportunity to hunt deer.
  • Helmets Necessary When Utilizing All Terrain and Utility Vehicles at Mississippi Corps Lakes

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ is enforcing a safety requirement for all operators and passengers while riding certain vehicles at its Mississippi lakes at Arkabutla, Enid, Grenada, and Sardis. Operators and passengers must wear helmets at all times when operating or riding in recreational off-highway vehicles, all terrain vehicles, all terrain cycles, and other vehicles that travel on non-highway tires and designed specifically for off-road usage. All vehicles shall be operated in accordance with posted restrictions and regulations at each site.

  • 14-026 UPDATE #2: Corps progress to fix Little Goose navigation lock gate on track

    STARBUCK, Wash. – UPDATE #2 -- Work to replace the cracked gudgeon arm assembly on the top of Little Goose Dam’s navigation lock downstream south gate leaf remains on track to reopen for service by the end of April, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District officials. Work milestones completed to date include securing the gate leaf in place to keep it stabile during repairs; removing the old, cracked gudgeon arm assembly; and painting and installing the new gudgeon arm assembly. The remainder of the work to be done relies heavily on the use of cranes and man baskets and includes adjusting diagonal tensioning on the gate leafs; preparing the hydraulic power unit for reattachment to the south gate leaf; removing work-related equipment from the site and final alignment testing prior to returning the navigation lock to service.

    Tow haulage equipment at David D. Terry Lock (No. 6) is out of service. Double cut tows will have to be locked the conventional way (without the use of tow haulage). The length of downtime is currently unknown. Another notice will be distributed when the tow haulage equipment is back in service.

The public comment period begins on April 21, 2014 and ends on July 21, 2014.
