    Corps accepts comments on Lake O Watershed Programmatic Agreement

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period on the Draft Programmatic Agreement for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project (LOWRP). Comments are due October 31, 2019.

    LAKE SEMINOLE SEASONAL, PARTIAL CLOSURES

    MOBILE, Ala. – As of Oct. 1, 2019, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District implemented seasonal partial closures at Lake Seminole and Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam recreation sites. The seasonal closed areas include Faceville Landing Campground, River Junction Landing Campground, and Chattahoochee Park. Lake Seminole day-use sites and/or other campground facilities managed by USACE will remain open.

    Army Corps conducts environmental restoration through Handshake Program

    The Francis E. Walter Dam, owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was constructed approximately 60 years ago. During the construction process, millions of cubic yards of sediment and rock were excavated from two nearby borrow areas to build the earthen embankment of the dam. For the past 11 years, the Army Corps, Pheasants Forever Chapter 803, and other non-profit organizations have worked to reclaim and restore these borrow areas by removing invasive species and planting native and pollinator plant species that enhance wildlife habitat.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host a community meeting Tuesday, October 29 at Willowbranch Branch Library, 2875 Park St., Jacksonville, Fla. 32205. A poster session/meet and greet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m.

    Army Corps awards contract for Ocean City, Sea Isle City, and Strathmere beachfill

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois for $32.5 million to complete periodic nourishment of two projects in Cape May County, N.J. The contract calls for dredging more than 2.4 million cubic yards of sand and placing on the beaches in Ocean City, Strathmere, and Sea Isle City.
