Corps to host public meeting for the Mojave Dam Master Plan revision

Published Oct. 26, 2020

The Los Angeles District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, hereby informs the public of the initiation of the process to revise the Mojave Dam Master Plan. The public is invited to view information found at the following website: www.spl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Operations-Division/Mojave-River-Dam

The website contains a brief presentation describing the revision process, a copy of the current master plans, maps of the current land use classifications, and instructions for submitting comments to USACE. The public involvement process will be conducted online in lieu of face-to-face workshops until the COVID-19 virus pandemic subsides. All members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments and suggestions before December 2, 2020.

USACE defines a master plan as the strategic land use management document that guides the comprehensive management and development of all recreational, natural, and cultural resources throughout the life of the water resource development projects. The master plans are a vital tool produced and used by USACE to guide the responsible stewardship of USACE-administered lands and resources for the benefit of present and future generations. Public participation is critical to the successful revision of the master plans.

The current master plans are in need of revision to address changes in regional land use, population, outdoor recreation trends, and USACE management policy. Key topics to be addressed in the revised master plans include revised land classifications, revised natural, cultural, and recreational resource management objectives, recreation facility needs, and special topics such as off highway vehicle use and threatened and endangered species habitat.
