  • Mile Point construction moves forward; marsh waterways to close

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers asks the public to use extra caution in the waterways and on land features within the Mile Point construction area on the St. Johns River. The construction zone contains a variety of vessels, including large barges and a dredge with pipelines, in the Chicopit Bay area and Intracoastal Waterway, and crews are also operating heavy equipment at Helen Cooper Floyd Park. These areas are restricted to construction personnel only due public safety concerns.
  • Mile Point construction starts in January; boaters beware

    Starting in January 2016 and continuing through November 2016, Manson Construction Co. will construct the Mile Point Training Wall Reconfiguration Project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project will reroute the navigable waters in the Chicopit Bay and the Inter-Coastal Waterway system.
  • Army Corps of Engineers announces park closure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the closure of Helen Cooper Floyd Park during the construction of the Mile Point Navigation Project. Located near Mayport, the park will contain construction activity and also be used as an equipment staging area throughout project operations. The closure is effective Apr. 1 through construction completion in the winter of 2016.
  • Mile Point Industry Day information educates contractors

    Due to the complexity and challenges of the Mile Point Reconfiguration project, project manager Jason Harrah knew it was important to engage and inform the industry about the project early on. An industry day was held in Jacksonville in November, to provide an opportunity for contractor representatives to learn about the details and requirements for the project.
  • Congress authorizes eight Jacksonville District projects

    Eight U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District projects that will provide critical infrastructure to local ports and ecosystem restoration efforts in Florida received approval as part of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) of 2014, which was signed by President Barack Obama June 10.
  • Fifth grade students take on Jax Port deepening debate

    Mayport Elementary Coastal Sciences Academy fifth graders are studying the Jax Port “dredging debate” and recently invited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District to present its case. The kindergarten through fifth grade academy teaches students the importance of preserving habitats and ecosystems through resources conservation.

    Today marked another significant step for the Mile Point project as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) signed the Project Design Agreement this afternoon during a ceremony at the JAXPORT Talleyrand terminals.
