  • Temporary closures announced for upcoming construction activity at Tuttle Creek Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake is announcing that the stilling basin area - locally known as the “tubes” - as well as Outlet Park Shelter #3 is scheduled to be closed to all public access from October 18-22, 2021, depending on weather conditions effecting the planned work.

  • Corps to start rock overlay at Tuttle Creek Dam in September, will close access near dam

    Work is expected to begin on or about September 7, 2021 and will require closure of public access, including the east and west dam parking lots and the entire upstream face of the dam. These closures include all pedestrian and bank fishing.  The project will span several months, with no anticipated road closures and this initial phase is expected to be complete in early 2022.

  • Tuttle Creek Lake launches Virtual Ranger program, offers QR code activities for a safe Eagle Day experience

    MANHATTAN, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake has launched a new Virtual Ranger program allowing visitors a safe and fun experience for multiple exploration activities around the lake. The first set of virtual activities offers Quick Response codes allowing exploring Rangers to self-navigate to prime eagle viewing and learning locations around Tuttle Creek Lake.  Quick Response codes will be posted at Tuttle Creek starting January 2nd, 2021.

  • Tuttle Creek Lake prepares for winter: Outflow increases, lake drops

    MANHATTAN, Kan. – Beginning Dec. 23, 2020 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake will increase outflows to drop lake levels in order to facilitate ongoing construction projects. This seasonal adjustment minimizes ice damage, provides additional storage capacity for spring rains and favorable habitat for fish spawning in the spring. Operations to lower the lake water level will not delay ongoing construction activities at the stilling basin (locally known as the “tubes”) nor cause excessive flow for ongoing construction downstream in the Kansas River.

    Beginning November 25, Tuttle Creek Lake, Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will increase outflows to drop lake levels, consistent with the annual Water Level Management Plan.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct 5-year inspection at Tuttle Creek Lake

    MANHATTAN, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District announced an upcoming periodic inspection at Tuttle Creek Lake, to include dewatering of the stilling basin below the dam. Preparations for the inspection begin October 9, 2020 with the closure of lake releases and subsequent lowering of River Pond for approximately three weeks. Until then, releases are scheduled to continue with a target lake elevation of 1078 feet above mean sea level.

  • Corps announces temporary closure at Tuttle Creek Cove Park

    MANHATTAN, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has awarded a contract at Tuttle Creek Lake to K & K Industries, Inc., Junction City, Kan. for repair of the Tuttle Creek Cove Park in Riley County, Kan. The Tuttle Creek Cove Park area was significantly damaged during the 2019 flood events. The contracted work will repair the utility camping loops and access roads to the boat launch and day use facilities. Construction activities are expected to take approximately 9 months to complete with a goal to reopen the park by May 1, 2021.

  • Tuttle Creek Lake announces stilling basin water drawdown for construction

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake wants patrons to know that construction associated with the Stilling Basin Rehabilitation project downstream of the dam, locally known as the tubes, has resumed. The first stages of work for this construction will affect the lake level in the short term as well as areas below the dam around the stilling basin and downstream river pond area. The contractor will perform partial removal and repair of the final concrete basin wall section. To facilitate this repair work, the water will be drawn down in the stilling basin by opening the water control gate at the Rocky Ford Dam, which is downstream of Tuttle Creek Dam, allowing the river pond area and river channel between the two dams to be lowered several feet.

  • HWY K-13 Across Tuttle Creek Dam to reopen for motorized traffic between Pottawatomie and Riley counties; park access to change as result

    MANHATTAN, Kan. - Motorists will once again be able to travel between Pottawatomie and Riley Counties via highway K-13 beginning on or shortly after June 10, 2019.  To maintain public safety, pedestrians and non-motorized traffic will be prohibited between Dyer Road (located in Pottawatomie County) and Tuttle Cove Road (located in Riley County).  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has completed replacement of the bridge deck over the spillway structure at the east end of Tuttle Creek Dam.  This marks the first time the bridge will be open to public travel since February 2018.

  • Corps of Engineers to close River Pond and Rocky Ford areas at Tuttle Creek State Parks

    Manhattan, Kan.— Tuttle Creek reservoir elevations have continued to rise this spring due to wet conditions across the Kansas and Missouri River basins.  Currently Tuttle Creek flood pool is 88% occupied, leaving minimal space to store flood waters.  Due to the limited flood storage available and possible reservoir releases, the River Pond and Rocky Ford Areas of Tuttle Creek State Park (TCSP) will be closed effective 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019.
