    Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Mr. Adam Telle concluded a four-day, three-state tour through Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi last Friday, marking the successful completion of ‘BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE, NOT PAPERWORK IN ACTION: GULF OF AMERICA WEEK’ and breaking ground at the $3.7 billion Blue Point One fertilizer facility in Donaldsonville alongside USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, USDA Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden, Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council Executive Director Emily Domenech, and Rep. Julia Letlow representing Louisiana's 5th Congressional District.

  • Freeport channel milestone expands vessel access, strengthens U.S. supply chains

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and Port Freeport recognized a major milestone in the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project during a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 28, 2026. The federal navigation project deepens and partially widens the harbor channel, enhances the upper turning basin and eases the lower channel bend. The improvements provide greater vessel access, operating flexibility and navigation capability at one of Texas’ leading commercial ports.

  • USACE, Harris County complete White Oak Bayou project in northeast Houston

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District and the Harris County Flood Control District joined elected officials and community partners Thursday to celebrate the completion of the White Oak Bayou Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project, a long-term effort to reduce flood risk and strengthen national resilience in one of the most urbanized watersheds in Harris County.

  • Port Arthur Project public open house slated Nov. 20

    The United States Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, in partnership with the Jefferson County Drainage District 7 (DD7), will host a public open house on November 20, 2025, to share information about the next phase of the Port Arthur Project — the Port Arthur and Vicinity 04 (PAV04) contract.

  • USACE's ERDC and SWG Team Up To Provide Important Federal Acquisitions Training To Joint Audience

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District (SWG), hosted PROSPECT (Proponent-Sponsored Engineer Corps Training) Course 183, Formal Source Selection, at the Jadwin Building in Galveston, Texas, Feb. 13-16, 2024. Source selection is the federal government’s process for selecting contractors to perform work or provide a supply or to construct a building. Dr. Christopher Barnett, USACE, Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC), Business Operations Branch (BOB) chief, Vicksburg, Miss., led the team of five instructors.

    On July 30, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractors successfully completed the first construction contract and first mile of the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay coastal storm risk management program.

  • Wallisville Lake Project, Waterfowl Management Program is accepting seasonal duck blind drawing submissions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District, Wallisville Lake Project, Waterfowl Management Program is accepting seasonal duck blind drawing submissions by mail from May 1 to June 30 for the upcoming 2022/2023 waterfowl hunting season. A total of 50 seasonal duck blind construction permits will be offered along with 20 standby positions, for this upcoming season. Applicants may only apply for the duck blind drawing by mailing a 3 by 5 white notecard containing their name, address, telephone number and email.  Notecards must be mailed to Wallisville Lake Project Attn: Duck Blind Drawing P.O. Box 293 Wallisville, TX 77597.  Applicants are encouraged to purchase delivery confirmation to ensure their application was received, as there will be no way for the Project Office to confirm receipt once the notecard is placed into the drawing bin.
