    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, April 8-12, 2024.
  • The Mississippi River Commission will host two public hearings next week

    The Mississippi River Commission will host two public hearings in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau onboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi as part of their low-water inspection trip. The meetings will be held August 17 at the St. Louis Riverfront and August 18 at the Cape Girardeau Riverfront in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Both begin at 9 a.m.
  • Corps of Engineers to host two open houses onboard Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District will provide two opportunities for the public to tour the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI at no cost while it is in the region. Public open houses will take place: Saturday, August 5 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. along the riverfront in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Tuesday, August 8 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in Alton, Illinois.

  • Mississippi River Commission prepares for low-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, Aug. 22 – 26, 2022. Four public meetings are scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river. Commission members will meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues. The meeting dates, times and locations are as follows: • August 22 9:00 a.m. -- 12:00 p.m. Tiptonville, Tenn. (Riverside Park) • August 23 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Memphis, Tenn. (Beale Street Landing) • August 24 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Vicksburg, Miss. (City Front) • August 26 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Morgan City, La. (Port Commission Dock)
  • Mississippi River Commission cancels Upper Mississippi River portion of low water inspection trip but still plans to conduct Lower Mississippi River portion

    Due to the rising cases of COVID, the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) has canceled the Upper Mississippi River portion of its annual low water inspection trip on board the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI, which was scheduled for August 15-20, 2021. The health and safety for people is a priority during this critical time in our nation. The MRC still intends to conduct the Lower Mississippi River portion of the low water inspection trip and public hearings scheduled for August 22-27, 2021. Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in select towns along the river.
  • Mississippi River Commission and Corps of Engineers tour Missouri River

    Leaders from The Mississippi River Commission along with leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers toured the Missouri River Mar. 29 – Apr. 1. Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, chief of engineers and commanding general, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Brig. Gen. D. Peter Hemlinger, commander, Northwestern Division, Col. William Hannan Jr., commander, Kansas City District and Col. Mark Himes, commander, Omaha District, met with partners and stakeholders and visited sites along the river.

    The Memphis District Commander Col. Zachary Miller, district leadership, and members of the Project Delivery Team gathered on the Mississippi Riverbanks in Arkansas for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a bank armoring project, Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021.
