  • USACE to host open house for Beltzville Lake Master Plan revision

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host an open house on October 10, 2024, to kick off a process to revise the 1971 Beltzville Lake Master Plan. The open house will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company, 105 Firehouse Road, Palmerton, PA 18071.
  • Corps to host renaming, dedication ceremony for John P. Murtha Locks and Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will host a ribbon-cutting and renaming ceremony for Locks and Dam 4 on the Monongahela River near Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Aug. 28.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District Expedites Navigation Channel Opening at Mon. River Locks and Dam 3

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is expediting the opening of a 100-foot-wide navigation channel through the dam at Monongahela River Locks and Dam 3 near Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, by Aug. 28.
  • Swim Beach Closed at Blue Marsh Lake

    Swimming at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake is currently restricted due to high bacteria levels. Water sample results obtained from testing on Thursday, July 18th indicated high levels of e-coli bacteria.  The swim beach will remain closed until bacteria levels return to a safe level for public use. This restriction applies only to the designated swim area.  Picnicking, boating, and other activities across the lake are not currently restricted.
  • Swimming Area Reopened at Blue Marsh Lake

    The swimming area at Blue Marsh Lake’s Dry Brooks Day Use Area has been reopened for public use. Water quality test results now indicate that E. coli bacteria levels have returned to a level that meets state standards for swim beaches. The public is reminded that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is at one’s own risk, and lifeguards are not on duty. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants you to stay safe.  Don’t become a statistic – and always be prepared for the unexpected!
  • Swimming Area Closed at Blue Marsh Lake

    Swimming at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake is currently restricted due to high bacteria levels. Water tests will be done daily until the levels return to a safe level for public use. This only affects the water area, picnicking and boating will not be restricted at the lake. We would also like to remind those visitors that choose to enter the water at other areas of the lake, that the water in those areas is not tested and that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is “swim at your own risk.” Updates will be provided as conditions change.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with the Shenango River Watchers, will host the fourth annual Eagle Fest at Shenango River Lake, Jan. 13.
  • Corps announces closure of Shenango Trail bridge near Shenango River Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is announcing the closure of the pedestrian/equestrian bridge near the intersection of Hamburg Road and Stamm Road, along the Shenango Trail (Lat. 41°19'26.09"N Long. 80°20'30.70"W).
  • Pittsburgh District Awards Contract for Fish Reefs on Monongahela River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District announces the contract award for more than $2.4 million to build 73 stone fish reefs on the Monongahela River. The fish reefs construction is a part of the Lower Monongahela River project, which includes the construction of the larger lock chamber at Charleroi Locks and Dam, and the removal of Lock and Dam 3 at Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. Corps of Engineers contractors have completed Pool 3 channel dredging, and the gated dam at Braddock Locks and Dam.
