    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Philadelphia District is updating the harmful algal bloom status at Blue Marsh Lake from a Watch Status up to a Harmful Algal Bloom Advisory Status. 
  • ERDC R&D underpins harmful algal bloom removal technology at Ohio demonstration

    VICKSBURG, Miss.– U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers attended a demonstration of freshwater harmful algae removal technology at William H. Harsha Lake in Batavia, Ohio, September 15. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources H2Ohio Program hosted the event, with industry partners Woolpert, an architecture, engineering, geospatial and strategic consulting firm, and AECOM, an infrastructure and engineering company presenting the technology. The Harmful Algal Bloom Interception, Treatment, and Transformation System (HABITATS) underpins the harmful algal bloom (HAB) removal unit demonstrated at the lake, which is located just outside of Cincinnati.
  • Army Corps reminds Prompton visitors to be aware of potential Harmful Algae Blooms

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Philadelphia District is reminding visitors to Prompton Dam and State Park to be aware of the potential for blue-green algae in the lake and the potential for harmful toxins to be present. Visitors are advised to be alert for harmful algal bloom conditions and to avoid contact with discolored water or scum. Algal blooms occur annually, however environmental and lake conditions during the summer season enable the algal blooms to become potentially harmful.

  • Corps announces public comment and webinar on planned deviation from Lake O Regulation Schedule to reduce risk from Harmful Algal Blooms

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, announces public comment on the Draft Revised Supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the planned deviation from the water control plan for Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades Agricultural Area, also known as the Lake Okeechobee Regulation Schedule (LORS 2008) in order to reduce risk from Harmful Algal Blooms. A webinar to provide information regarding the proposed planned deviation is planned for 1 p.m. on July 21. Public comments are due July 30.
