  • USACE delivers battery testing facility to NSWC Crane

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District and Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane celebrated the delivery of the Submarine Battery Evaluation Center during a ribbon cutting ceremony July 21, 2022, in Crane, Indiana. The test facility will provide full-scale submarine battery and energy storage testing and modeling capabilities unique to the Navy. The outcome of the testing will improve the Navy's ability to predict, control and mitigate low-capacity batteries.
  • ERDC-CERL managing project, awarding a $17.5 million battery contract to Lockheed Martin

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Operational Energy (OE) team at the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) was selected to provide management for a flow battery at Fort Carson, Colorado. The team was selected based on its previous work with a research and development a flow battery prototype. ERDC-CERL is also awarding a $17.5 million contract to Lockheed Martin to prepare the Fort Carlson site, as well as to construct and demonstrate the flow battery. The $17.5 million agreement between ERDC and Lockheed Martin represents the largest dollar amount awarded as a result of submissions through the ERDCWERX platform to date.
  • Corps Approves Permit for Lordstown Battery Plant

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District’s Regulatory Division approved and issued a permit under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) to General Motors, on behalf of GigaPower LLC, for the construction of a 3-million square-foot battery cell plant in the village of Lordstown, Ohio, April 14.
  • UPDATE: Corps to Host Virtual Meeting on General Motors Permit

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will no longer host the previously-scheduled public meeting about the General Motors permit application to construct a mass-production battery-manufacturing plant in Lordstown, Ohio. Instead, the district will host a virtual meeting to collect community input about the permit application.
