  • Army Corps awards contract for Ocean City, Strathmere, Sea Isle City beachfill project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Ill. for $33.7 million to complete periodic nourishment of the Great Egg Harbor Inlet to Townsends Inlet Coastal Storm Risk Management project. The project is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Ocean City, Sea Isle City, and Upper Township, N.J. Work is designed to maintain the dune and berm system in the communities and reduce the risk of storm damages to coastal infrastructure.

  • Army Corps awards contract for periodic nourishment of Ocean City beachfill project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District has awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, IL for $21.5 million to conduct periodic nourishment of the Great Egg Harbor and Peck Beach, (Ocean City), NJ project in New Jersey. Work is the result of a partnership between the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Ocean City.

  • Army Corps of Engineers districts revitalize Ocean City inlet

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District’s, Hopper Dredge MURDEN conducted 24/7 dredging operations at an inlet near Ocean City, Maryland, during September 2021. The ongoing Ocean City Inlet federal navigation channel and Assateague Bypass dredging efforts enhance safe navigation conditions, boost commercial endeavors, and promote recreational activities for travelers. The USACE Baltimore District routinely receives services from the Wilmington District’s MURDEN or its sister ship CURRITUCK for routine dredging in and around the Inlet. The Baltimore District manages the Ocean City Inlet federal navigation channel and Assateague Bypass project while the Wilmington District staffs, trains and equips these special-purpose dredges that work up and down the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, dredging similar inlets or near-shore coast projects.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, awarded a $15.7 million contract on August 2, 2021, for berm reconstruction in Ocean City, to Weeks Marine Inc., based in Cranford, New Jersey.

  • BOEM, Army Corps, and State of Maryland Enter Agreement for Sand Resources

    The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District (Corps) and the state of Maryland Department of Natural Resources have entered into an agreement allowing the Corps to use sand from the Outer Continental Shelf for scheduled beach nourishment as part of its Atlantic Coast of Maryland Shoreline Protection Project.

  • Army Corps, State to host public meeting on Ocean City inlet projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Worcester County, is hosting a public meeting May 30 at the Worcester County Library – Berlin Branch (13 Harrison Ave. in Berlin) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. to discuss two concurrent efforts: a project to address sediment accumulation in the Ocean City Inlet, as well as a study on the scour hole near Homer Gudelsky Park.

  • Army Corps, Baltimore District to receive more than $68 million in President’s proposed fiscal 2020 budget

    The President’s proposed fiscal 2020 Civil Works Budget released March 12 includes $4.827 billion in gross discretionary funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works program, including funding for the following Baltimore District projects: $17.3 million in Poplar Island expansion construction; $4 million for dredging of the Wicomico River; $20.4 million for dredging of Maryland and Virginia harbors and channels; and more than $28 million for operation and maintenance of flood risk management projects across Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia

  • Army Corps kicks off inlet navigation improvement project with State of Maryland, Worcester County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and Worcester County signed a Project Partnership Agreement Feb. 14 to start work on a navigation improvement project to address sediment accumulation, or shoaling, within the Ocean City Inlet.

  • Baltimore District receives more than $13 million in additional funding for navigation, environmental restoration, flood risk management missions in Chesapeake Bay region

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, received more than $13 million in additional funding in the 2019 Work Plan to continue various critical missions in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, including Mid-Bay Island design, the Chesapeake Bay Comprehensive Plan, Fishing Creek jetty repairs, Ocean City Inlet dredging, and operation and maintenance activities at dams to include construction of a new water treatment plant at Raystown Lake.
