  • Public crossing at Little Goose Dam closed Feb. 18 through 21

    STARBUCK, Wash. – Public crossing at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Little Goose Lock and Dam will be closed from Feb. 18 - 21 for maintenance.

  • USACE & FIND host the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway boat tour

    On May 1, 2024, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District, joined by partners from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND), U.S. Coast Guard, and various stakeholders, embarked on the vessel named Florida II to conduct inspections along segments of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterways (IWW). While unconventional, the ship provided an invaluable setting for decision-makers to witness firsthand the environmental areas under discussion and foster relationships among stakeholders.

  • Tuttle Creek Cove campground to close for maintenance

    Tuttle Creek Lake, near Manhattan, Kansas, will be closing Tuttle Creek Cove campground starting April 10, 2023. Work is scheduled to take place throughout the campground from April 10 – May 19, 2023, but is subject to change due to weather. Any changes to the dates of closure will be posted as soon as they are made available by the contractor. The entire park will be closed for public use for the duration of the work, which includes the boat ramp and pedestrian access. Work will also impact Stockdale Campground and portions of Outlet Park, including the stilling basin or “tubes” area. Dates for work on these areas are not yet known but will be posted as soon as they are made available.

  • 23-20 Little Goose Dam limits public dam crossing March 27 through April 1

    Starbuck, Wash. – Officials at Little Goose Lock and Dam are limiting public dam crossings to passenger vehicles only, between March 27 and April 1 to perform repairs on top of the dam. Public crossings may also experience delays due to the repair work.

  • Keeping water safety a high priority

    Boating season is upon us, and more people are taking the opportunity for fun and leisure out on the water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District knows that the need for vigilance and safety on the water is imperative.

  • Detroit District awards contract for maintenance at Soo Locks

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, announces a contract award to replace aging equipment on the MacArthur Lock in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The more than $7 million contract was awarded to Ryba Marine Construction Co. The contract (award number W911XK20C0020) was for $ $7,276,650.00 to replace the World War II-era tainter valves for the MacArthur Lock. Tainter valves are used to control the flow of water used for raising and lowering the water level in the lock during a lockage. The MacArthur Lock has two sets of tainter valves, one upstream set and one downstream set. “The Corps takes pride in performing maintenance to keep its existing facilities operational for long durations, while simultaneously planning for replacement and renewal as required to ensure the locks remain a resilient link in the Great Lakes Navigation System,” said Kevin Sprague, area engineer, Soo Area Office.

  • Closures to Illinois Waterway Locks remain set for July 1

    Beginning July 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District is temporarily closing the Dresden Island, Marseilles, Starved Rock, Peoria and LaGrange locks on the Illinois Waterway to facilitate needed repairs and maintenance. The closures, which will be conducted simultaneously to limit impacts to navigation, are scheduled to last through late October.

  • Multiple river dredging contracts awarded

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, recently awarded contracts for maintenance dredging of the Detroit River, Saginaw River and St. Clair River all in Michigan. The contracts were separately awarded to Morrish-Wallace Construction Inc., of Cheboygan, Michigan, (d.b.a.) Ryba Marine Construction. These dredging projects help maintain the Great Lakes navigational channel to keep cargo moving – products like iron ore, limestone, coal and cement.
