  • Kansas City District to hold public scoping meetings for Lower Missouri River Basin Flood and Risk Resiliency Study

    Five public scoping meetings are scheduled along the Lower Missouri River Basin to provide an update on the ongoing Lower Missouri River Basin Flood Risk and Resiliency Study, also called the system plan, in July. The meetings will be co-hosted by the Omaha District and the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The historic 2019 flood on the Missouri River caused billions of dollars in damages to agriculture and infrastructure in communities in the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. During the 2019 flood, these states formed a four-state coalition called the Flood Recovery Advisory Working Group. The goal was to develop actions in the aftermath of the 2019 flood to reduce system risk and recurring damages, improve system resiliency for the future and improve interagency collaboration.

    There were many challenges this year including finishing the restoration of the Lower Missouri River Basin from the catastrophic flood event of 2019, reintegrating the workforce safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and numerous hurricane first responder deployments. But in the face of unprecedented adversity, the USACE, Omaha District team rose to each challenge by leveraging its industrious culture and continued to successfully support its worldwide missions. The District closed out the fiscal year by executing its largest program ever at $1.75 billion across its four business lines, civil construction, military construction, regulatory mission support, and the bank stabilization program of the Missouri River.

  • USACE seeks public comment on Environmental Assessment for Sweet Grass County restoration, protection project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment for the Sweet Grass County flood damage restoration and surface water resource protection project in Montana. The proposed project includes replacing the Melville Road wood bridge with a new modular steel bridge, improving the Melville Road concrete bridge by removing an abandoned concrete abutment, and replacing the Big Timber Canyon Road bridge with a concrete box culvert.
