  • Larger than life: A history of Dworshak Dam

In May 1948, floodwaters on the Columbia River overtopped the cofferdam where construction was underway on McNary Lock and Dam. The propensity for flooding in the Northwest sparked much discussion about regional flood control.
  • 23-032 Dworshak Dam releases to decrease to minimum flow this weekend

AHSAHKA, Idaho – Dworshak Dam is currently releasing 2,300 cubic feet per second (cfs). Flows will begin decreasing on the evening of Saturday, May 27 to be in the approximate range of 1,400-1,600 cfs. Operations to decrease discharge to minimum flow at Dworshak will occur simultaneously with decreasing natural flows and are expected to result in the Clearwater River near Peck decreasing by less than a foot.
  • Dworshak Dam increases discharge to cool river temperatures

Due to increased temperatures, Dworshak Dam will be increasing their releases to support flow augmentation intended to keep the tailwater of Lower Granite Lock and Dam at or below 68 F.
  • 22-047 Dworshak Dam to decrease outflow over next several days

AHSAHKA, Idaho – Flows are receding in the Clearwater Basin, including the North Fork of the Clearwater above Dworshak. Due to receding flows Dworshak will be reducing outflow to minimize overall mainstem flow in the Clearwater, reduce Total Dissolved Gas (TDG), and start the final fill process for recreation.

AHSAHKA, Idaho – Dworshak Dam is currently releasing approximately 20,200 cubic feet per second (cfs) and will be increasing outflow to 25,000 cfs over the afternoon of Sunday June 12, 2022.
  • John Day Dam storing water to minimize lower Columbia River flooding
