  • New Splash: Surveyor continues waterways passion

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, Survey Technician Ryan Miranda endures another chapter pursuing waterway passions, which includes stints as a rower, scuba diver, and naval historian. As one of the newest members of the survey technician team, he incorporates his experiences from swimming as a child to coaching rowers to successfully contribute towards enhancing the Chesapeake Bay and District’s National Capital Region area of responsibility with hydrographic condition surveys of federal channels and topographic surveys on special projects.
  • Poplar Island Ecosystem Restoration Expansion Complete, Open to accept Dredge Material

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, completed construction of the Poplar Island Ecosystem Restoration Project lateral expansion Jan. 20, 2021, providing 575 additional acres, including four new wetland cells and one large upland cell. The project is now able to accept dredged material associated with the approach channels to the Port of Baltimore until around 2032.
  • New Hoffler Creek resident enhances neighborhood’s quality-of-life

    A new home took shape on the muddy banks of Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve as the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began developing this prime real estate for occupancy by some of Chesapeake Bay’s famous inhabitants: the eastern oyster.
