    Ryan Manalo Alaman, a mechanical engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM), has spent 13 years working with the Bahrain Resident Office. Alaman’s role as a foreign service national positively impacts both local communities in the Middle East and broader U.S. strategic interests. His adaptability to diverse working conditions enhances TAM’s mission effectiveness.

  • USACE Omaha District Change of Command Ceremony, July 26

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District will be holding a Change of Command ceremony July 26, 2023, as Colonel Mark R. Himes relinquishes command to Colonel Robert J. Newbauer. The Change of Command ceremony will take place at the Holland Center located at 1200 Douglas St., Omaha, NE 68102, and will commence at 10:00 a.m. on July 26th.

  • Setting the standard: Kansas City District recommits to delivering quality

    Since its inception, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE, has worked hard to solidify itself as a trusted federal partner who engineers quality projects for the nation. Within the organization, a select few districts have taken the commitment to quality a step further. The Kansas City District is one district that puts quality above all else. One way the Kansas City District ensures quality remains at the forefront is by providing district-wide training. Leadership at the district required all Kansas City District employees to attend the Project Delivery Business Program, or PDBP, training during the first quarter of 2023.

    Imagine everything in your house – furniture, family heirlooms – floating away in a flood. Then imagine your house floating away in it, too. To call it ‘bleak’ is an understatement. However, that is the terror many experienced in September when hurricanes Ian and Fiona devastated Puerto Rico and the southeastern corner of the United States.

    Volunteers are an invaluable part of the Corps of Engineers team. The Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers is responsible for thousands of acres of land in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Proper management of those lands would not be possible without the volunteers who lend their time and abilities to the mission.

  • Arkansas channel cleanout project ‘Ready to Advertise’

    In support of the district's flood risk management mission, the Memphis District regularly plans and executes projects to maintain and repair channels and levees as needed. Most recently, a project called "The Locus Creek Channel Cleanout", recently reached a significant milestone known as "Ready to Advertise" (RTA). "Ready to Advertise" means the project package has been sent to the district contracting team for awarding this fiscal year. The work to be done is in the Craighead County, Arkansas area. According to PDT Project Manager Amber Jarnagin, Locust Creek has been experiencing debris blockages that aren't allowing proper channel drainage.

  • ENFIRE Refresher Course Produces Renewed Contingency Preparedness

    The 11th Engineers have concluded a refresher course held during the week of Aug. 3 designed to leverage the use of ENFIRE, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) rapid data collecting tool kit. Instruction set, reconnaissance, and surveying (commonly known as ENFIRE) allows Far East District (FED) Soldiers and civilians to conduct reconnaissance with modernized collection and dissemination technology from a safe distance, making it possible to deliver data with a greater level of precision than ever before.
