Position Title:  Assistant Master, Towboat (DR) - Motor Vessel Goodwin

NOTE: This position is DUAL-RATED to the position of Master, XH-5784-13. If qualified and possesses appropriate U.S. Coast Guard License/Certification, incumbent may be assigned to perform the duties of this position during the absence of the Master in a dual-rated capacity.

Full Performance Level:  XH-11

Duty Location:  Official Duty Station is Ensley Engineer Yard. 

Hourly Salary Range:  $34.06 - $39.74

Work Schedule:  Seasonal

Seasonal Statement:  This is a full-time permanent seasonal position.  Seasonal signifies an annually, recurring period of employment of less than 2087 hours per year. During non-work periods you will be placed in a non-duty, non-pay status.

Travel Requirement:   Temporary Duty Travel is greater than 50% of the time

Responsibilities/Duties:  Incumbent serves as an Assistant Master on the M/V Goodwin and performs a variety of work involved in the operation & management of the Motor Vessel Goodwin. Is assistant operator on a single or twin-screw Diesel towboat under 65 feet in length, 1200 HP, and approximately 150 to 200 lip, engaged in revetment plant tending and towing operations on the Mississippi River and Tributaries.  Supervises small crew on towboat (e.g., 2-4) lays out their work and directs their activities while on watch. Spot checks work performed on other shifts. Pilots towboat and manipulates pilothouse controls governing the speed and direction of the boat, as required in making and breaking of tows, towing plant and barges in immediate vicinity of projects and performs long-distant towing as required.

Schedule:  This position requires varying shift work. During towing season, works 2 weeks on, 1 week off. Works 12 hours per day. During Lay-up/Maintenance season, incumbent will work 8hr/5days a week, 10hr/4 days a week or may have the option of working a 15 day on - 6 day off (10 hour days) schedule during winter maintenance period. This is a full-time permanent seasonal position.  Seasonal signifies an annually, recurring period of employment of less than 2087 hours per year. During non-work periods you will be placed in a non-duty, non-pay status.

Qualifications Requirements:  This position requires mandatory licenses.
License for XH-11.  To qualify for the Assistant Master, Towboat (DR), XH-5784-11 you must possess a current U.S. Coast Guard Master of Towing (Western Rivers) license, no restrictions.
