Maintenance repairs on Longview Dam

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Longview Lake announces maintenance and repair work to the embankment slopes (front and back) of Longview Dam in Kansas City, Mo.

For the safety of lake visitors and workers, traffic lights are installed on the dam for the duration of the project while construction crews work to repair shallow slides and place additional bedding and riprap. These slides are not impeding the performance or integrity of the dam; however maintenance is required to prevent that.

“We urge visitors traveling along 109th Street across Longview Dam to pay attention to the temporary traffic signals in order to keep everyone safe,” says Lora Vacca, Operations Project Manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “Pay attention to signs as parking has temporarily changed during this project. Our crews are working as quickly and diligently as they can while moving heavy equipment.”

The parking lot southwest of the dam is currently closed. Parking on the east side of the dam is open to access the lake for walk-in visitors.

This maintenance and repair work to the embankment slopes is expected to be complete in October 2020.
