Smith’s Island Recreation Area Closed Until Further Notice

Due to safety concerns related to storm damage, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed the Smith’s Island Recreation Area until further notice.

The recreation area, which is located at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, will have restricted access until storm debris is removed. Access to the Smith’s Island Nature Trail and picnic shelters, located between the main lock and the auxiliary lock, will be restricted. The parking lot and boardwalk area along the riverfront remain open for visitor use.
