CONCORD, Mass. – All Blackwater River paddling events that were scheduled for April 25-26, 2020 in Webster and Salisbury, New Hampshire, have been cancelled by the paddling club requestors due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, Blackwater Dam in Webster and Salisbury, New Hampshire, will not be providing controlled releases of water that weekend, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District officials.
Construction of Blackwater Dam was completed in 1941 at a cost of $1.3 million. The 1,150-foot-long, 75-foot-high dam has a reservoir storage capacity of 14.9 billion gallons of water and has prevented flood damages of at least $79.2 million to date ($130 million, adjusted for inflation).
