Columbia River Treaty
The Columbia River Treaty is an international agreement between the United States and Canada, signed in 1961 to coordinate flood control and electrical energy production and development and operation of the Columbia River Basin. An agreement on the modernization of the Columbia River Treaty was recently reached that provides needed certainty and voice to the people and Tribes of the Columbia Basin as it relates to how we work with Canada on the responsible management of water, a critical resource to people on both sides of the border.
