SAN FRANCISCO - (Sept. 24, 2014) - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Deputy Commander Maj. (P) Adam J. Czekanski received the Soldier's Medal from South Pacific Division Commander Brig. Gen. Mark Toy for his actions of valor and heroism earlier this year when he jumped onto the tracks as a commuter train was approaching to save a fellow rider who had fallen due to an apparent seizure. The Soldier's Medal is the U.S. Army's highest for valor or heroism in a non combat situation. Pictured from left are Toy, Czekanski and San Francisco District Commander Lt. Col. John C. Morrow. Czekanski, who has served three combat tours, two in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, has also received three Bronze Star medals one Purple Heart medal, credited his years of military training as he quickly assessed the situation and jumped into action to save a stranger while placing himself in imminent danger.
