Commander, Contingency Response Unit

Colonel Brian T. Dixon commands the Contingency Response Unit headquartered at the United States Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C.  A Direct Reporting Unit of the 416th Theater Engineer Command, the CRU provides Combatant Command commanders, Army Service Component Command commanders and USACE commanders with technical engineering expertise and engineer battle staff augmentation responding in support of military and civil contingency operations. 

Colonel Dixon’s most recent assignments include United States Northern Command Exercise Support team chief for Joint Staff, J7R, in Suffolk, VA, Civil Engineer (J3/J4) with the United States Joint Forces Command, and battalion commander for 1st Battalion, 391st Regiment, 4th Brigade, 98th Training Division. 

Colonel Brian T. Dixon received his commission in the Engineer branch in 1989. He graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, having received a bachelor's in Industrial Distribution. Colonel Dixon also received his Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He’s been a member of the Army Reserve for more than 25 years serving in a variety of engineer, individual training, joint, collective training, and professional development units. 

Colonel Dixon’s military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Observer/Controller Course, the Environmental Compliance Assessment and Facility Assessment Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College.  He has participated in the Reserve Component National Security Issues Seminar, the Joint Engineer Operations Course, Advanced Joint Professional Military Education, the Joint Staff Training Course, the Joint Domestic Operations Course (executive version), and the Joint Task Force Commander’s Training Course.

Colonel Dixon’s military career began at 2nd Battalion, 389th Regiment, 98th Division where he was assigned as the training officer and Company Commander for Delta company.  He then served in 2nd Battalion, 322nd Regiment, 7th Field Exercise Brigade, 78th Division as the Engineer Team Chief and Logistics Officer. Upon completion of his assignment at 78th Division, he was assigned as the Civil Engineer/Project Manager for the Facility Engineer Team, Facility Engineer Center Northeast, 416th Facility Engineer Group.  COL Dixon deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he served as Construction Management and Environmental Officer for Karshi-Khanabad Directorate Public Works.  His next two assignments were Operations Officer (S2/S3) for the 6th Brigade, 98th Division and Executive Officer for the 6th Brigade, 84th Training Command.
