A team of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' regulators and planners worked for several years with the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force Injury and Mitigation Working Group in the development of a new recently published handbook entitled "Handbook on Coral Reef Impacts: Avoidance, Minimization, Compensatory Mitigation, and Restoration", dated December 2016.

The handbook provides an overview on the current state of the knowledge on coral resources impacts assessment and mitigation, which is useful for staff, stakeholders, applicants and sponsors in regions where coral reef habitat exist. The handbook provides another tool in the toolbox to advance the understanding of the requirements to avoid, minimize and, if needed, mitigate for unavoidable coral reef impacts.
