The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

  • Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns

    More public recreation fatalities occur in July than any other month, so the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) asks you to please play it safe while on, in, or near the water because drowning is a leading cause of death this time of year. USACE public recreation fatality statistics show that 88 percent were male, 89 percent were not wearing a life jacket, and 47 percent were swimming in areas not designated as a swimming area.

  • USACE Program Manager Receives Partnership Award

    On Feb. 21, 2017, Heather Burke, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) National Partnership Program Manager, received the Public Lands Alliance (PLA) Agency Leadership Award at PLA's annual conference in Arlington, Va. This award recognizes a federal or state public land management agency employee for outstanding accomplishments in championing, cultivating and leading a partnership.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launches new water safety campaign -- “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns”

    WASHINGTON — Every year thousands of people in the United States mourn the loss of loved ones who could have survived if they had been wearing a life jacket while spending time on or near our nation’s waters. To heighten awareness for the use of life jackets, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recently launched a new water safety campaign titled “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns.” USACE, in cooperation with the Corps of Engineers Natural Resources and Education Foundation, a non-profit foundation established to support USACE natural resources and recreation programs, developed the campaign that targets adult males.

  • Army Corps of Engineers supports new “Every Kid in a Park” recreation initiative

    President Obama, with the support of the Federal Interagency Council on Outdoor Recreation to include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, announced today the start of a new initiative to give every child in the United States the chance to explore and learn about America’s great outdoors. The Every Kid in a Park initiative will provide all fourth grade students and their families with free admission for a full year to more than 2,000 federally-managed sites nationwide.
